講座題目:The butterfly effect in strategic human capital: Mitigating the endogeneity concern about the relationship between turnover and performance

內容摘要This paper seeks to mitigate an endogeneity concern that has plagued the strategic human resource literature since its inception: is it the departure of human capital which leads to a decrease in a firm’s performance, or is it the firm’s poor performance which leads its human capital to leave? Using the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan as an exogenous event which triggered a “butterfly effect” that affected the departure decisions of individuals working for firms located near a nuclear plant in the U.S., but not the firms’ performance, this study provides strong evidence that the departure of strategic human capital leads to a decrease in firm performance, and that this effect is amplified by the strength of firm–employee relationship.

主講人簡介陳國立,賓夕法尼亞州立大學戰略管理學博士,歐洲工商管理學院(INSEAD)戰略系教授。陳國立教授主要研究方向為高管、董事會和人力資本對戰略選擇與組織績效影響,CEO-董事會關系與公司治理的動態變化,對組織成長、更新、可持續發展和企業發展活動等研究問題也很感興趣,如并購、IPO、全球化和創新。他曾在諸多頂級學術期刊發表二十余篇作品,包括Administrative Science Quarterly、Academy of Management Journal、Management Science、Strategic Management JournalOrganization Science等,觀點和文章廣泛被國際媒體雜志所引用。他曾任戰略管理協會(SMS)企業戰略組主席,美國管理學會(AOM)戰略管理部(STR)研究和執行委員會委員,擔任AMJ、AMRSMJ的編委會成員。陳國立教授發表過十余篇企業案例,在2016年獲得了戰略管理協會(SMS新銳學者獎。
